Meet Richard:

Richard Cox is a lifelong resident of Stockton, Alabama, whose life and career have been rooted in service, stewardship, and community involvement. A graduate of Baldwin County High School, he continued his education at Faulkner State (Coastal) Community College and Auburn University before serving with the 482nd Army Reserve Unit in Foley.

Richard has spent decades working as a farmer, timber dealer, logger, and land management professional – earning a living by caring for the land and natural resources God has entrusted to Baldwin County. Through this work, he has helped feed local families, supported the timber industry, and protected the county’s forests, farmland, waterways, and wildlife.

His dedication to Baldwin County extends beyond his profession. Richard serves on the Baldwin County Baptist Disaster Relief Team, the Baldwin County Farm Services Agency County Committee, the Baldwin County Forestry Planning Committee, and the Baldwin County Farmers Federation. He is also a past chairman of the Alabama Farmers Federation Forestry Committee and previously served on the boards of Wheelin’ Sportsmen and the Treasure Forest Association.

A man of strong faith, Richard has attended First Baptist Church in Bay Minette for 40 years. He and his wife, Wendy, have been married for 48 years and are the proud parents of two sons – John (wife Valle) and the late David (wife Payton) – and the grandparents of three beloved grandchildren.

“I’m running because Baldwin County deserves leadership that works every day to make life easier, safer, and more affordable for the people who call this place home.”

– Richard Cox

What Richard Believes in:

Responsible, Managed Growth

Baldwin County is one of the fastest-growing counties in Alabama, and while growth brings opportunity, it also brings challenges. Families in Baldwin County feel these challenges every day – heavier traffic, strained infrastructure, longer emergency response times, and seasonal pressure from millions of visitors passing through our communities. I believe growth has to work for the people who call Baldwin County home – not the other way around. Our planning decisions must reflect the needs of our 247,000 permanent residents. That means better infrastructure planning, responsible zoning, and making sure development is aligned with what our roads, schools, utilities, and first responders can realistically support. Growth is inevitable, but unmanaged growth is a choice – and it’s time for leadership that puts Baldwin County families first.

Supporting Law Enforcement & First Responders

From the coastal communities to the small towns and rural areas in between, Baldwin County’s size and diversity require a strong, well-equipped network of law enforcement and emergency personnel. As a Commissioner, I’ll be committed to making sure our first responders have the tools to protect every corner of Baldwin County. This means strengthening emergency response capabilities, improving communication resources, and ensuring we’re investing in the people who risk their lives to protect ours. Safe communities start with strong support for the men and women who serve on the front lines.

Protecting Baldwin County’s Natural Assets

God blessed Baldwin County with some of the most beautiful landscapes in the state – from our coastal shorelines to the forests and waterways of North Baldwin. My family has been on this land for generations, and we – along with many other Baldwin County families – have worked hard to be good stewards of what we’ve been given. As your Commissioner, I’ll work to ensure growth doesn’t come at the expense of the natural resources that make Baldwin County special. Smart planning, responsible development, and long-term conservation will help us protect our forests, rivers, and wildlife for our children and grandchildren. We can grow as a county without losing what makes this place home.

Strengthening Infrastructure for Everyday Residents

Tourism fuels much of Baldwin County’s economy, but it also strains our roads, bridges, utilities, and emergency services. For too long, infrastructure decisions have been reactive instead of proactive. I believe in long-term planning – widening critical roadways, improving traffic flow, expanding broadband access, and making strategic infrastructure investments that benefit year-round residents first. Baldwin County needs infrastructure that’s built for the future, not patched together for the moment.

Keeping Taxes Low & Spending Accountable

Families are feeling the pressure of rising costs, and local government needs to be part of the solution – not part of the problem. I support keeping taxes low, cutting wasteful spending, and ensuring every tax dollar is used wisely. Growth should expand our tax base, not increase the burden on hardworking Baldwin County families. We need transparent budgeting and a commission that answers to the people, not special interests.

Strengthening Our Communities & Local Quality of Life

Whether you live near the coast, in one of our growing towns, or in our rural communities, you deserve a Commissioner who works for you. I am committed to improving local road maintenance, expanding broadband access, supporting agriculture and small businesses, and ensuring county services and resources are distributed fairly and effectively. Every community matters – and every part of Baldwin County deserves strong representation.

Leadership That Listens

My approach to leadership is simple: listen first. I believe elected officials should be accessible, responsive, and willing to sit down with the people they represent. That means returning calls, attending community meetings, and hearing directly from families, farmers, business owners, and first responders across Baldwin County. I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I promise to show up, ask questions, and make decisions based on what’s best for the people who live here, not political pressure or outside interests. As Commissioner, I will be a dependable voice who keeps an open door and puts the needs of Baldwin County families first.
